Product Description: This is a strand of Etched Carnelian Beads.
Note: Due to the antique nature of the item, it may have scratches, cracks, or chips.
Era: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE
These beads are from the Indus Valley Civilization. They were crafted by drawing designs on carnelian with a natron liquid derived from plants and then baking them at low temperatures of 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While they have also been unearthed in Mesopotamian and Afghan archaeological sites, it is believed that the beads made in the Indus River region were transported overland and by sea.
