Dzi Beads are ancient beads from Tibet, similar to etched Carnelian, featuring designs created by baking natural dyes onto agate. These beads are believed to have been made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD, although the exact composition of the dyes used remains a mystery, adding to their enigmatic nature. Found primarily in Tibet, they are also discovered in Bhutan and the Ladakh region of the Himalayas. Different baked patterns are thought to carry various meanings, with the round "eye" designs being especially prized. In Tibetan culture, Dzi Beads are cherished as amulets for wealth and prosperity, passed down through generations. In recent years, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tian Zhu" (Heavenly Beads), and many replicas using similar techniques have surfaced. However, ancient Dzi Beads retain their high rarity and value.
