The Victron Energy 12V 240Ah AGM Deep Cycle Battery is a sealed, maintenance-free lead-acid battery designed for demanding cyclic applications in solar, off-grid and marine installations. With M8 threaded insert terminals and a 240Ah capacity, it suits professional installations where reliable, high-capacity energy storage is required without the complexity of lithium systems.
AGM batteries use a glass mat separator to hold the electrolyte in place, eliminating free liquid inside the cell. This makes them safe to install in orientations other than upright, and suitable for use in vehicles, boats and enclosed battery enclosures where a flooded battery would not be permitted. The valve-regulated design means gas recombination occurs internally under normal operating conditions, with the safety valve only opening under fault or overcharge conditions.
At 240Ah, this battery is suited to applications where a single large-capacity 12V unit is preferable to paralleling smaller batteries. Parallel configurations are possible with Victron AGM batteries, but minimising the number of parallel strings generally improves long-term reliability and simplifies battery management. For 24V or 48V systems, two or four units can be connected in series respectively.
Correct charging is critical to AGM battery longevity. These batteries require a charge voltage within the manufacturer's specified AGM profile. Overcharging accelerates water loss and grid corrosion; undercharging leads to sulphation. Victron MPPT and inverter/charger products include a dedicated AGM preset, which simplifies correct configuration when used together.
At 65.1 kg, this battery requires two people or mechanical assistance to position safely. Ensure the installation surface and any battery enclosure are rated for the weight. M8 terminal bolts should be torqued to the manufacturer's specification to avoid terminal damage or loose connections. Always use appropriately rated DC cabling and fusing between the battery and any inverter, charger or load. AGM batteries must be charged using a charger or charge controller set to the correct AGM voltage profile. Connection to solar inverter/chargers or grid-tied systems should be carried out by a qualified electrician or MCS-accredited installer. Do not install in a fully sealed, unventilated enclosure as the safety valve may vent gas under fault conditions.
