I should point out that 'Standard' was the name Parker gave to this particular 51, it does not mean 'standard' in the accepted sense of the word and is, in fact, a rare pen.

After 1957 the Parker 51 Special was no longer produced and it was replaced with the Parker 51 Standard, although the filler was still marked 'Special'. In the mid 1960s the cap was changed to matt frosted 'Lustralloy' with a pearl jewel and the pen was given a 14Ct. Gold nib as on this pen.

The design of the clutch and lack of a '51' imprint on the cap allow the pen to be dated to 1964.  It is finished in the American version of Burgundy, much darker than the English version.

The pen is in outstanding condition throughout.  The barrel and hood have a showroom finish and the cap still retains the frosted surface and is fee of dings or other blemishes

The 14 Ct. Gold nib produces a super smooth fine line with a very pleasing 'soft' feel, uncommon in fine pointed nibs, but something that Parker excelled at with the 51 nibs.

The pen is presented in in a hard 'mock croc' style box, almost certainly original.  It is in sound, clean condition, opening and closing as it should.

The Gold nibbed Parker Standard was only made for a very short time and is extremely hard to find, particularly in such pristine condition.  This pen is clearly of collectable rarity and condition but is also a very practical pen, it would make a great vintage daily writer.
