The Ubiquiti LAP-120 is an ultra-lightweight, high-performance outdoor 5 GHz sector access point engineered specifically for Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and remote Point-to-MultiPoint (PtMP) broadband bridging. Designed to function as a central distribution hub, this hardware combines a high-efficiency radio engine with an integrated sector antenna within a highly compact, streamlined form factor.
With an aggregate real TCP/IP data throughput rate exceeding 450+ Mbps, the LAP-120 provides a highly cost-effective wireless bridge infrastructure to distribute long-distance network links across rural estates, business parks, and outdoor industrial sectors.
The LAP-120 is built around a specialized internal sector antenna array that focuses and shapes the wireless signal into a precise coverage corridor:
120-Degree Wide Beamwidth: Throws an expansive horizontal signal arc across a full 120° radius. This wide footprint allows a single central LAP-120 unit to communicate concurrently with up to 50+ independent airMAX AC client stations (CPEs) distributed across the landscape.
16 dBi High-Gain Output: Concentrates radio energy to punch a clean, low-latency signal through local atmospheric noise, maintaining stable links over distances spanning up to 10+ kilometres when paired with compatible client dishes.
2x2 MIMO Dual-Polarization: Utilizes simultaneous horizontal and vertical antenna polarization streams to ensure optimal data throughput rates and continuous link redundancy.
Operating on Ubiquiti's dedicated airOS 8 firmware, the LAP-120 uses advanced proprietary protocols to prevent traditional outdoor wireless collisions:
Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA): The airMAX AC engine assigns pre-scheduled transmission time slots to every connected client station. This completely removes the "hidden node" collision bugs common in standard indoor Wi-Fi protocols, maintaining high packet stability regardless of user density.
Dedicated Spectral Radio: Features a secondary internal radio architecture that runs continuous, real-time background spectral analysis. This provides network administrators with instant, detailed readouts of local 5 GHz frequency noise and radar interference, allowing for automated, interference-free channel shifting.
Three-Axis Ball-Joint Mount: Features a unique rear ball-joint system that allows complete, fluid positional adjustment across three independent axes. Combined with a built-in mechanical bubble level, installers can adjust elevations and azimuth paths in seconds using a single wrench.
24V Passive PoE Operation: The switch requires a specific 24V Passive Power over Ethernet feed down its single Gigabit RJ45 port.
Critical Power Allocation Warning: The LAP-120 is not compatible with standard 48V corporate active switches (802.3af or 802.3at PoE+). Connecting it directly to a standard 48V corporate switch port will not power the device. To solve this out-of-the-box, a dedicated 24V, 0.5A Gigabit PoE adapter injector is fully included inside this retail pack.
