This bag pattern came to be as I needed a bag to use as carry on when flying to Stockholm, and as it's for use in Stockholm, it had to be big enough to fit both my laptop, an extra sweater and everything else I need while travelling or for a full day on the town. This bag is perfect for both!

This stylish, classic no fuss design with a simple big exterior pocket and an optional zipper closure. It has a generous zippered pocket in the lining and some open lining pockets for cell phone and other little things. I hope you'll have as much fun making your bag as I did and that you'll get just as much use out of yours as I'm getting from mine! This pattern comes with both inch and centimeter measurements.

BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY

This is a good pattern for the intermediate bag maker.

MEASUREMENTS

Finished bag: ~12" (30cm) high and ~18" (45cm) wide at the top and 5" (13cm) deep at the base.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

Fabric:

⅔ Yard (65cm) - Exterior: 
Vinyl, faux leather, cork, cotton or canvas. More will be needed if you have a directional fabric. 

½ Yard (45cm) - Contrast fabric: 
Cotton fabric is recommended, but if your sewing machine can handle heavy layers you can use vinyl, faux leather, cork or canvas. 

1 yard (90cm) - Lining: 
Cotton fabric.

⅓ Yard (30cm) - Vinyl
Vinyl, faux leather, cork or similar, where edges can be left raw for handles and zipper pocket trim. If your exterior fabric is vinyl, you can just use a full yard (90cm) of that.

Interfacing:

1.4 Yard (130cm) - Heavy weight fusible interfacing of 20” (50cm) width: 
Pellon Peltex 71F or 72F, Decovil 1 Heavy, Fast 2 Fuse heavy or similar. 

1 yard (90cm) - Woven fusible interfacing: 
Vilene G700 woven fusible, Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex or similar for all cotton lining fabric. If you have a cotton exterior, you need enough of this interfacing to interface all exterior pieces too.

Notions:

12” (30cm) -  Zipper for lining pocket: 
Or longer, for zipper pocket in lining, can be size #3 or #5 as per your preference.

* 18” (45cm) -  Zipper for closure: 
Optional: Or longer, if you wish a zipper closure for the bag, a #5 size zipper is recommended. 

* 1 - Metal zipper end:
You can use one of these, or you can sew a zipper tab of your own design.

1 - Magnetic snap:
Optional: If you want it as a closure for your tote instead of the zipper. 

5 - Bag feet: 
Optional: But gives a nice look and protects the bottom of your bag.

Non-permanent marker: 
For making temporary marks, that can be removed with water, heat or similar. 

Double sided tape.

100/16 sturdy sewing machine needle (preferably a topstitch kind).

Fabric glue.

Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler.

Fabric clips.
