“Soliloquy” is a photomicrograph of crystalline phenylethylamine (found in chocolate) interacting with lactic acid. Formed on a glass slide through controlled evaporation and photographed under polarized light, the structures refract light to produce color from within.

What emerges is both minimal and precise.

A circular form hovers.
Linear bands stretch across the frame.
A sense of balance—almost architectural—takes hold.

At this scale, the microscope reveals the structure,
but perception reshapes it into something familiar:
