This particular Dundaga blend is special because it brings together two distinct Baltic wool traditions into one balanced, living yarn. The combination of 50% Gotland sheep wool (known for its long, strong fibers and natural sheen) and 50% Latvian sheep wool (prized for its insulation and authentic warmth) creates a fingering-weight yarn that is rustic yet refined, durable yet flexible, and deeply rooted in heritage craftsmanship.

Gotland wool contributes long fibers, subtle natural sheen, and strength, giving the yarn excellent stitch definition and longevity. Latvian sheep wool adds elasticity, insulation, and authentic Baltic warmth. Spun as a 6/1 single ply, the yarn preserves visible fiber structure and allows the natural character of both wools to remain present in the finished fabric.

The yarn is minimally processed and lanolin-rich. The final wash is a transformative step, unlocking deeper color vibrancy, improved softness, and a cohesive, balanced hand while maintaining structure and durability.

▣ A Note from the Knitter
Dundaga is a true rustic wool that is minimally processed to retain the best qualities of the fiber. Washing and blocking are essential to fully transform the yarn. The first wash removes residual dirt and sets the final texture, revealing the yarn’s true softness, elasticity, and stitch definition.
This yarn is known for its artisanal dyeing process. Colors may blend and overlap within the skein, creating a watercolor effect and unique striping. Because color lots vary, it is strongly recommended to purchase enough yarn for your entire project.
Due to retained lanolin and minimal processing, this yarn is prone to felting. Please follow hand-wash instructions carefully.
One of Dundaga’s most practical features is its long color sections, allowing you to create striped or jacquard designs without purchasing multiple shades. Yarn ends can be joined without knots by overlapping 5–6 cm (about 2 inches), lightly moistening, and gently rubbing the fibers together — they naturally bind, reducing loose ends in multicolored work.

⟳ Recommendations for Weaving:
This 100% Wool blend is an excellent choice for both warp and weft. Its sticky texture is ideal for warp in medium-to-heavy density fabrics, and its full-bodied feel creates cozy, rustic textures for items like blankets and rugs.
This Gotland–Latvian wool blend is well suited for rustic weaving due to its natural grip, strength, and bloom.
• Suitable for both warp and weft
• Suggested sett: approx. 16–20 epi (plain weave), 18–22 epi (twill)
• Ideal for blankets, shawls, scarves, panels, pillows, and heritage textiles
After wet finishing, the fabric blooms, softens, and becomes warm and cohesive. Sampling is recommended.
