The Stamitz family is a family of musicians from Bohemia. Carl Stamitz, the most famous of them all, was a representative of the "Mannheim School" established by his father Johann, and left behind a large number of works, mainly chamber music. He was an outstanding violinist, but his works for wind instruments were especially famous, and his clarinet works were especially popular at the time. His works are still in the process of being organized, and the number of clarinet concertos, which is said to be eleven, has not yet been determined. This is the world premiere recording of his works in a comparative edition by Friedrich Karl Kaiser. Paul Meyer, one of the best clarinetists in the world today, backed by the Mannheim-Pfalz Electoral Chamber Orchestra, which he will assume as principal conductor starting in the 2019/20 season, gives a superb performance of this highly technical work full of song.
