Nikolai Capustin is known for his fusion of jazz and classical music. He played the piano with a touch as free as that of Oscar Peterson or Errol Gana, but when composing, he also notated all the improvisations in jazz and wrote his works as if he were improvising. In this album, pianist Frank Duprey and his colleagues, who performed the Piano Concerto No. 4 (C5437) with great skill, have arranged Capustin's various piano pieces for jazz trio. They play improvisational yet meticulously written pieces with a jazz-like ease. The pieces have a new charm to them.
