The EDI-USA PASGT Helmet is a classic, battle-proven ballistic helmet tested to Level III-A (ambient) and HG2 (ambient) under NIJ threat parameters, with additional STANAG 2920 (V50) fragmentation resistance. Designed originally for military operations, it delivers full ballistic coverage from the forehead to the back of the head, including the ears. Available in black, green, or tan (custom order), and in navy blue for film crews and journalists operating in high-risk environments. Sizes run Medium, Large, and Extra Large.

Threat rating and standard

The PASGT Helmet is tested to Level III-A (ambient) and HG2 (ambient), stopping ballistic threats up to .44 Magnum, including intermediate handgun calibers such as 9mm and .357 SIG. Testing is conducted at ambient temperature conditions consistent with NIJ threat-level parameters.

The helmet also meets STANAG 2920 (V50) fragmentation standards, providing resistance to shrapnel and other fragmentation threats. This fragmentation rating is distinct from — and in addition to — the handgun ballistic rating. Like all currently available ballistic helmets, this model is not designed or rated to stop high-velocity rifle threats.

Shell material and construction

The PASGT profile provides coverage from the forehead around the full circumference of the head and down to cover the ears, making it one of the most protective shell geometries available in a wearable helmet. The interior is lined with durable mesh for comfort during extended wear. A ballistic neck protection add-on is available as an optional configuration for users who require expanded coverage.

Suspension and retention

The interior suspension system is adjustable and fits securely during active use. Two retention configurations are available: a rubber chin cup, or a double chin strap without the rubber chin cup. Specify your preferred configuration at the time of ordering. The suspension adjusts to keep the helmet stable across movement, and the mesh lining supports extended wear without excessive pressure points.

Can this helmet be shipped to my state?

It depends on your state. This helmet cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor restrictions. It is also subject to US export regulations. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor.

What does Level III-A HG2 mean for this helmet?

Level III-A and HG2 are handgun-threat designations. This helmet is tested to stop ballistic threats up to .44 Magnum at ambient conditions, including 9mm and .357 SIG. HG2 is the NIJ 0123.00-aligned terminology; III-A is the legacy NIJ 0101.06 designation. Both refer to the same handgun threat tier.

Will this helmet stop rifle rounds?

No. This helmet is tested to handgun threat levels (III-A / HG2) and fragmentation resistance per STANAG 2920. No currently available wearable ballistic helmet is rated to stop high-velocity rifle threats at the RF3 (Level IV equivalent) tier. Rifle rounds exceed the protective capability of any wearable ballistic helmet on the market.

What is the difference between the rubber chin cup and double chin strap options?

The rubber chin cup wraps under the chin for a secure, cushioned hold. The double chin strap uses two nylon straps without the rubber cup. Both keep the helmet stable during use. The preference is largely personal — some users find the chin cup more comfortable, while others prefer the strap configuration. Specify your choice when ordering.

Is this helmet available in custom colors or with custom markings?

Yes. Custom colors and interior suspension systems are available for special orders. Custom logos and inscriptions can also be applied. Standard stock colors are black, green, and navy blue.
