Description:

This is the second 30th anniversary album of the CUG Jazz Orchestra, the oldest and No.1 big band in Japan, which has been active since 1989. The members of the orchestra consist of virtuoso musicians from New York, Seattle, Beijing, Sapporo, Tokyo, Kobe, and Nagoya. The uncompromising arrangements based on straight-ahead jazz shined through, providing the perfect opportunity for all players to demonstrate their independence and spirit of exploration as soloists. This 11th release includes "Fall" composed by Shuhei Mizuno (p) with its innovative and delicate arrangement and beautiful melody, and "The Promise" composed by Hiroki Hirate (tp, p), one of the hottest young multi-instrumentalists in the world. Promise" composed by Shuhei Hirate (p). Fat Back" is a piece by our ally, N.Y.-based pianist and composer Allen Farnham. Sphisticated Lady," featuring Yoshihiro Iwamochi (bs), is a simple arrangement reminiscent of the Ellington sound. Maya Hatch (vo) beautifully sings "I Just Found Out About Love," a well-known song.Katsumi Yamauchi (conch shell) and Tsubasa Yanagawa (wadaiko drum) will participate in "Tenka Souzou Suite San'eiketsu," written in honor of the concert held every March at the Nagoya Noh Theater. And "Pine Trees in Yuriage," dedicated to our friends in Tohoku, with the participation of erhu player Huan Yaqiong from Beijing.
