Description:
Martin Brabbins' RVW! "London Symphony", first published "1920 version"! Martin Brabbins has been Music Director of the English National Opera since 2016. Brabbins, who has garnered attention for his excellent recordings of British music by Walton, Elgar, and others, has recorded Vaughan Williams' "Symphony No. 2"! The original version of Vaughan Williams' Symphony No. 2, which was known as the "London Symphony," was completed in 1913 and premiered in 1914, and has been revised several times since then. The Brabbins performance is a rare recording of the version that was revised in 1918 and first published in 1920. Also of note is a recording of some of Vaughan Williams' lesser-known works, including a small piece for voice and small orchestra sung by Elizabeth Watts and Mary Bevan, and "Variations," written for brass band (military band).
